Politics often make little sense to me.
Case in point: the 2008 election, though a monumental win for one of the most progressive presidents in the history of the country, also ushered in one of the most reactionary propositions ever suggested.
Of course, I'm talking about Proposition Eight, which amended the California state constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman only.

Our reputation as the "Caring College" is a bit unstable. At times, the label rings unmistakably true and at others it has been mumbled with sarcasm and bitterness. Now, though, it seems like the nickname is making a comeback.
In a letter to the student body, President Helm, the administration, and student leaders signed the list of embarrassments attributed to the College this year.

The Social Ivy. We've all heard the phrase, whether during the tours we took of Penn as high school juniors or from our own mouths as we explain to non-Quakers why they should be impressed with our credentials. True or not, the latter is the ultimate branding strategy; the only thing better than demanding elite status is to do it while simultaneously implying that our love of all that is social precludes us from being labeled obnoxious or snobbish.

What impresses me the most about Omari Lawrence isn't his jumpshot.
What impresses me the most about St. John's newest recruit isn't his ability as a defender, it isn't his No. 22 national ranking among small forwards and it isn't the thousands of hits on his
YouTube highlights.

What do you do when your water is shut off, you have no power, and your last month's rent was spent on hockey skates?
Make an amateur porn video with your roommate to pay the bills, of course.
At least that is the case in Kevin Smith's latest film, "Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Many see the election of Barack Obama as the culmination of the civil rights era. As the first civil rights era closes, it is time to pick up the banner of the second civil rights era. This time, the debate will not be race. This time, the concern will be sexuality.

Electronic mail, or as we call it in the Tech Club, "e-mail" may seem like just another fad to you because you don't understand science. But after spending hours staring silently over people's shoulders in the computer lab, let me be the first to tell you that e-mail is here to stay. And if you are the skeptical type who desires more than just anecdotal evidence, consider this fact: a recent survey probably found that tons of people use e-mail EVERYDAY. Chew on that R-squared Dr. Math.

At some point, in between the scheduling madness, pestering parents and the perpetual drunk/hungover haze that occasionally leads to poor judgment, you hang up the phone after ending a frustrating conversation with, "Fine, if it's that important to you that I get married, why don't you find me someone?" Wait, shit, where's the undo button?? Giving Indian parents (who had an arranged marriage themselves) license to "find someone" is like letting loose an elephant in a china cabinet. But by the time you call them back 10 minutes later, the damage is done and they've already compiled a list of eight "eligible bachelors" who you've known since you were five.
